Hey Folks,
I'll admit it, I'm a gear nut. I can't pass up a chance to get my hands on some outdoor gear I may or may not ever use. Much to my wife's chagrin I picked up yet another tent from a guy at work.
It's a 2 person Alpine backpacking tent made by White Stag. I haven't been able to find much info on the company and virtually none on this particular tent.
I'll probably never use it since I have other much better tents but I just couldn't pass it up due to some of the strange details. The aluminum poles aren't shock-corded but telescopic. The top two sections nest inside the bottom one and then are covered with a plastic plug on the end. The fly attaches to the top with two extra 'poles' about 4 inches long which are permanently attched. I counted 26 aluminum stakes so there are guy lines and stake out loops everywhere. It's stitched together with cotton thread but has never been seam sealed and has rather beefy metal zippers.
The coolest thing about this tent was that it's in the original box and included the manual/brochure. I'm not sure of the tent age but it looks like new. Except for a little dust, the degradation of the box, and a little mildew odor it could be new.
The included brochure has a copyright date of 1973 so this tent is probably about my own age. There are advertisements for other backpacking and family tents, packs, and sleeping bags. The pack frames and bags are sold separately and the sleeping bags feature the 'new' insulation..Dacron 88.
The front of this brochure is all about low impact camping with such nuggets of information as 'If you drink soda pop or beer from cans, drop the pull-tab into the can. These tabs are unsightly, and can harm animals, birds, and fish.'
If anyone is interested I'll try and scan the brochure into a pdf and maybe take a few tent pics next week.
